TRAINING
Why Should I Attend Training?
Girl Scouts of USA policy states: “Every adult in Girl Scouting must be selected on the basis of qualifications for membership, ability to perform the job and willingness and availability to participate in trainings for it”
Girl Scouts of North East Ohio's policy states: “All volunteers should be willing and able to take appropriate training for their position”
Trainings provide volunteers with the opportunity to learn new skills and discover resources that will help them be successful Girl Scout leaders. It is also a chance to share life experiences with others. Trainings are always a give and take process...and fun!
The Leadership Development Pin
The Leadership Development Pin is an earned GSUSA recognition for registered Girl Scout Adult volunteers and depicts a brown owl on a yellow background.
The pin has five holes to which Leadership Leaves may be attached in recognition of Beyond Basics Training. The Leadership Development Pin is awarded through the Service Unit or Adult Development Department. To earn this recognition, adults must:
- Be an active registered adult member of GSUSA
- Complete one successful year in the position of troop leader, assistant leader or group coordinator
- Complete the five required Basic Leader Courses of Girl Scouts of North East Ohio
- Have taken first aid training OR secured an adult who is trained in first aid.
- Fill out Application – Leadership Development Pin (form #0489), and submit the completed form to your Service Unit Director or authorized staff for signature.
Once you have taken the required Basic Leader courses and received your Adult Development pin, you may continue to add Leadership Leaves by taking Beyond Basics courses. Leaders are encouraged to take additional training in subjects that will increase their skills in working with their troops/groups. You will enjoy the interaction and learning that you receive at Beyond Basics training. Leadership Leaves may be purchased for $2.00 per leaf at Juliette’s Treasures (The Girl Scout Shop) located at the Council Service Center in Lorain. The Application for Leadership Leaves form is available on the council web site or from your Service Unit Director.

Volunteer Trainers
Registered Girl Scout volunteer trainers facilitate the majority of training offered by Girl Scouts of North East Ohio. These trainers, who are selected for their knowledge and skill in a chosen field, have attended a Train the Trainers course, and have been educated in training methods, skills and techniques. This special group of volunteers donates many hours to ensure that Girl Scouts of North East Ohio volunteers have the tools to insure an enjoyable Girl Scout experience. Volunteer trainers take time to be prepared and plan for a specific number of trainees. They are busy Girl Scout people with families, jobs and busy schedules. We salute our volunteer trainers and staff members because it is through their efforts that the training opportunities are possible. You are appreciated!
