Keys to selling safely
Safety first is a priority for all Girl Scouts activities including product sales and should be stressed at troop/group meetings. Below are some basic safety guidelines for girls as they sell. For more safety guidelines, be sure to consult SafteyWise.
- Obtain written permission from your parent/guardian.
- Have them complete your permission slip.
- Observe all council guidelines and local ordinances.
- Be familiar with the neighborhoods in which you sell. Sell only when and where your parent/guardian allows.
- Use the buddy system. Never sell alone. Sell with an adult.
- Let your parents/guardians know where you are going and when you will be home.
- Never go inside someone’s home or apartment when you are selling. DO NOT enter the home of a stranger. Rehearse the knock and take three steps back rule.
- Never sell to people in cars.
- Follow safe pedestrian rules especially at busy intersections. Use sidewalks whenever possible.
- Never carry large amounts of money.
- Never give out your phone number. If a number is required, give them your leader’s number.
- Do not sell over the internet by posting information or transactions on a web site.
